L01: Mindmap Of Ideas Script

L01: style and content, narrative structure, genre, target audience

Style and Content

Scripts for most Media products are generally written in the 'Courier New' font, this size is also usually size 12. In general, screenplays apply to a range of different medias which include many audio visuals for example Radio, TV, Film etc. include character descriptions, Scripts in general help to set the character’s purpose in the type of media they are in. Scripts usually have a Dialogue also. Scripts for media such as The Radio,  usually have the dialogue in the center of the script. for example, in the script I analysed and also has the character’s name above the dialogue. Some of the scripts that I analysed also have a plot, for example the video game script named "The Room with a book" has a plot, as it is about the protagonist, forgetting a book, and the sectioned option within the flow chart in which the protagonist finds a secret coding book. which can also be referred to as a synopsis. This ensures that the audience can read the plot and therefore make a judgement if the game is interesting to play etc.

Stage directions are also a big factor as they tell the user what is going on, what is not in the script e.g. Looks through the window”.
Mode of address is also a feature throughout plays.
A formal based relationship is one example of this as this Is when a formal conversation takes place, for example worker to his Boss, as he of course has to be respectful to this person.

There is also peer to peer, which would be informal in many aspects as for example when friends talk to each other they usually speak in slang. Parent to Child is also another form of mode of address, which would in general be a mixture between formal and informal depending on the situation the conversation is set, these are the 3 types of mode of address. Sound effects are used in scripts as well, and are usually placed on the right side of the script/dialogue.

The description of the sound is usually written on the script. As this really helps in vision the audience with the play and make them feel like that they are a part of it, as they can see the description of every little sound and can really get a sense to which is going on throughout the scene.

Throughout the scripts I analysed including the video script “a room with a book” I can infer that the synopsis is important as it gives a plot to the game so the audience of course knows what is going on. In the scripts I analysed, for example the on titled “Shop-keeper” The mod of address is very formal as the Shop-keeper is to speaking to someone who is of high rank and therefore has to be formal. As he keeps referring to him as sir and sheriff.

Narrative Structure

The narrative structure is the story of the script/screenplays that I analysed. They are all very similar The start of the script is of course the introduction and the story of course varies to different types of media e.g.
Radio and a Movie would be different. province". Some scripts have to be formal like news scripts for example whereas some can be informal for, for example a video game script for entertainment. The narrative is generally in a chronological order. The scripts I analysed are generally in a linear format, although however the game script for example, is non linear as there are multiple options the audience can pursue, however most of the scripts are in a standard order from start to end, which shows that it really does vary between certain scripts.

Genre
The Genre of the scripts I analysed are generally fictional, although they are accurate of real life scenarios, for example the script in the classroom I analysed is an accurate representation of a classroom conversation between a student and a teacher. Whereas the video game script for example is not really an accurate representation of a real life scenario.

Target audience
The target audience of the scripts that I analysed generally ranges between middle class, all the way to working class as all these social classes could potentially be interested in video games, as well as music video scripts in which I analysed. Therefore I would say that the overall target audience  NRS would be A, B and C1, as these are most likely the ones who are able to have access to a script, or the content that the script was created for. Overall the target age Would be 17 and older I would say, as these are more likely mature enough to read a script, and be interested in reading in general, as well more interested in checking out the actual content that the script was written for, compared to for example, younger teenagers.
